Pradyot slams State Govt on Budget allocation for TTAADC, Press Club condemns Pradyot's behaviour with media person

Ex-chairman of the TIPRA Motha Party (TMP) Pradyot Kishore Debbarma criticized the BJP-led State Government for allotting only around 2 percent of the State Budget for the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

A day after the announcement of his departure from the local political affairs of the TMP, Debbarma held his first press conference on Monday which ended on a sour note as he ‘misbehaved’ with a media person.

Addressing the press meet, Debbarma said his party would continue to fight for its core demand – ‘Greater Tipraland’.

He said, “Various elections including the Assembly polls are being held in Tripura, but the BJP government does not conduct the Village Council (equivalent to Panchayat) elections in the TTAADC areas. We appealed before the High Court to this end. We will continue to fight for the VC election legally and politically”.

He criticized the State government on the Budget allocation for the people living in the TTAADC. Referring to the Jadab Lal Debnath Issue without naming Debnath, he hailed the protests in the Assembly by the TMP MLAs and the CPIM and Congress MLAs. He even mentioned the jumping and walking by the TMP MLAs on the table on which Assembly staff were recording the proceedings.

Debbarma talked about the Thansa (Unity) and alleged there is a conspiracy to break the Thansa creating confusion on Script, language and religion. He warned against alleged experiment that was conducted in Manipur to happen in Tripura.

All was going on smoothly, however, Debbarma suddenly lost his temper after one of the media persons raised to ask a question pertaining to his sudden departure from the local political affairs of the party at this juncture. Debbarma angrily encountered the media person alleging that Debbarma’s statements were twisted in the media.

Debbarma’s reaction immediately sparked widespread condemnation and several media organizations including the Agartala Press Club, print and electronic media bodies strongly denounced his behaviour.
