Detailing the objectives of holding such a workshop, Suman Bhattacharjee said, since its inception, the Sanskar Bharati is working for preservation and promotion of Indian art and rich cultural tradition. Painting is one of the ancient and most practised art forms.

Like other states, Tripura has also a long history of rich cultural heritage and Aalpana is one of the main forms of rural art which is being practised by rural women of the State.

“Keeping this in mind we are organizing the Folk and Tribal Mural Painting Workshop at Lankamura Auto stand area. During the 10-day long programme, 30 houses of the village would be decorated with Aalpana. In the programme, several artists under experts, as well as local village women, will take part in painting and decorating the houses”, Bhattacharjee said and added that all the houses of the village would be decorated with Aalpana to make Lankamura an ‘Aalpana Village’.

Apart from preserving and promoting the rural art forms, a perfect Aalpana village will become a major tourists’ attraction, Bhattacharjee commented.
