Soil Testing Initiative to Boost Agricultural Development in North Tripura District

Under the Central Government's guidelines through NITI Aayog, Damchara RD Block in Panisagar subdivision and Dasda RD Block in Kanchanpur subdivision have been identified as backward blocks in the North Tripura district. To support their agricultural development, a crucial soil testing initiative has been undertaken.

Soil testing is a fundamental step in improving agricultural productivity. By analyzing the soil's chemical and physical properties, such as pH level, nutrient content, and organic matter, farmers can receive tailored recommendations for fertilizers and agricultural inputs. This, in turn, helps increase crop yields and quality.

The results of these tests have been shared with the farmers, providing them with insights into their soil's fertility and specific recommendations for improvement.

According to Debjani Das of the Program Assignment, the soil samples were processed efficiently, and the reports were delivered to farmers within the stipulated timeframe. While some lands were found to have good fertility, others required specific interventions to enhance their productivity.

Dr. Soumendra Kumar, Senior Scientist at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, emphasized the completion of the soil testing project and the provision of tailored advice to farmers.

This initiative, under the NITI Aayog, is expected to play a significant role in the development of these backward blocks, he commented.
