Tipra Motha to contest polls alone as no major political parties ready to give written assurance for Greater Tipraland
Tipra Motha, a regional party of Tripura, will contest in February 16 Assembly polls in the State on its own.
Tipra Motha demanded a written assurance on its core demand - 'Greater Tipraland - from the parties willing to forge pre-poll alliance with it. Neither of the BJP, Congress nor CPIM came up with any such written assurance as demanded by Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma.
In the wake of the present situation, Debbarma announced on Monday (Jan 23) that the TIPRA Motha would contest this upcoming Assembly elections alone. He further said, if any party intends to talk with us at the very last moment, the party must come with a written assurance on Greater Tipraland demand.
The announcement ended wild speculations on Tipra Motha's tie up with BJP. For the last few days, rumours on Tipra Motha's alliance were doing rounds. The party workers and supporters were also confused and uncertain.
Meantime, top leaders of the party are chalking out the next stretegy including releasing contesting candidate's list for poll.
In an attempt to quell any possible discontent over candidate selection, the party leaders reminded that decision of the party's supremo would be final.
A press release circulated on behalf of the party read, "The party leadership is working on finalising the candidates list which shall be published soon.
For every TIPRA warrior, our people and our party are supreme and the decision of our Hon'ble Chairman Bubagra Pradyot Bikram Manikya in regard to the State Assembly Election shall be deemed final and would be acceptable to all".
With Tipra Motha going solo implies multi corner contest in the upcoming polls. To stop split in anti BJP votes, Congress joined hands with CPIM in the State. Now, as Tipra Motha is readying to jump in the fray, possibility of a bipolar contest is fading away. According to political analyst, this may give BJP an advantage.
Elections for 60 seat Tripura Assembly will be held on February 16 next while counting of votes will be done on March 2 next.
