Tripura CM gets personal advice from PM and a pat for amending PMAY norms

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, happy with the successes and achievements of the Tripura government in different sectors, assured Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb all help for further development and shared some ideas as well as publicly applauded Deb’s effort in amending definition of Kutcha House for the benefits of people of Tripura.

According to highly placed sources, “During his travel from MBB Airport to Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala on Tuesday and also during his return, the Prime Minister asked Deb to accompany him in his car.

As both of them sat inside the car, PM Modi told the Chief Minister to undertake some ambitious and pro-people projects and told him that he would look into the projects when sent to him.

The Prime Minister himself came up with some ideas for Tripura and advised the Chief Minister as to how the government should go ahead with some pro-people endeavours.

Modi-Tripura-Visit-MBB-Airport-BiplabModi even suggested as to how the City-Airport road should be made more attractive and wide and befitting for a road leading to international airport”.

Moreover, the Prime Minister publicly appreciated the role of Deb regarding the changes made into the definition of kutcha houses under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G).

The Prime Minister said the incumbent government in Tripura understands the plight of the poor and is sensitive to their cause.

In this connection, the Prime Minister mentioned, “When works started on PMAY in Tripura, a problem surfaced with the official definition of a kutcha house. The previous government had made a system that the house with the roof made of iron sheet will not be considered as a kutcha house.

As per the system of the previous Government, even if the mud wall and structures inside the house were dilapidated, the owner of that house was not considered eligible for PMAY-G – this denied thousands of rural families in Tripura in getting benefits under PMAY, he said.

The Prime Minister continued and said that Deb had highlighted the issue before him. Appreciating the role of the Chief Minister, he said, Deb came up with evidence. Subsequently the central government had changed its rules-- the definition following which more than 1 lakh 80 thousand poor families of Tripura became eligible to receive pucca house under PMAY-G.
