In the preceding fiscal year, 3,25,00,000 person-days were allocated for MNREGA, yet Tripura successfully accomplished 3,34,55,000 person-days, achieving a remarkable 102.95 percent success rate.
Tripura’s Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha highlighted the significance of endorsing locally popular products in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious 'One District One Product' campaign.
Taking part in a review meeting of the Tripura State Employment Guarantee Council (TSEGC) in Agartala on Monday, Dr. Saha underlined the need to spotlight products that enjoy popularity and experience high production rates within specific districts of the state.
He emphasized that these products deserve enhanced attention and concentrated efforts towards cultivation.
"Apart from the enduring creation of assets via MGNREGA in numerous Gram Panchayats and Villages of the State, equal emphasis should also be placed on nurturing local popular products. All products that have a robust demand and substantial production within various districts of the state should be given paramount importance in their respective cultivation areas. This approach will effectively facilitate the realization of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'One District One Product' initiative," Dr. Saha said.
The review meeting, chaired by Dr. Saha conducted evaluations of progress and formulation of strategies for forthcoming projects managed by the Rural Development Department, including MNREGA.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister proposed that relevant departments should proactively identify beneficiaries for diverse projects within their allocated budgets, rather than solely relying on MNREGA.
"Encouraging beneficiaries to contribute to project facilitation should be prioritized. In the context of creating permanent assets under MNREGA, utmost care should be exercised in selecting the right beneficiaries to ensure efficient execution and lasting impact," he asserted.
Dr. Sandeep R. Rathore, Secretary of the Rural Development Department, presented noteworthy statistics related to MNREGA's performance in the state.
"As of now, there are a total of 6,77,000 job card holders under MNREGA across the 8 districts of Tripura. In the preceding fiscal year, 3,25,00,000 person-days were allocated for MNREGA, yet the state successfully accomplished 3,34,55,000 person-days, achieving a remarkable 102.95 percent success rate. Notably, the state secured a substantial fund allocation of Rs 997.08 crore for MNREGA in the fiscal year 2022-23, marking the highest in the past 5 years. Additionally, a sum of Rs 414.78 crore has been disbursed in the ongoing fiscal year, out of which Rs 360.47 crore has already been utilized," Dr. Rathore disclosed.
As of July 31 in the current fiscal year, a total of 1,44,74,000 person-days have been generated out of the sanctioned 2,50,00,000 person-days. Furthermore, the fiscal year 2023-24 has witnessed the initiation of 3,57,348 MNREGA projects.
