Tripura CM Unveils Plan for Underground Electricity Cables and Homeopathy Hospital Modernization

In an attempt to enhance the state's power infrastructure and healthcare services, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced plans to lay electricity cables underground across the State. The initiative aims to provide a more reliable power supply and reduce the risk of accidents associated with overhead power lines.

Dr. Saha also revealed that the state government has already begun the experimental phase of laying underground electricity cables in the Banamalipur area. "Gradually, this will be extended to other areas as well. The government is considering this plan. This system has not yet been implemented in all parts of the country. Underground power lines can also help prevent accidents," he noted.

His statement came up close on the heels of State-wide public outcry over power outages, especially after the Cyclone Remal.

Dr. Saha made this announcement following his visit to Netaji Subhash State Homeopathy Hospital in Sadhutila, near the capital, Agartala, on Wednesday. This visit marked the Chief Minister's second inspection of major hospitals within two days, underscoring his commitment to revamping the state's healthcare system.

"The current government is very serious about revamping the health system of the state. We are working towards making health services more accessible to the people. The government is also planning to open a homeopathy and an Ayurvedic medical college in the state in the coming days," Dr. Saha stated.

During his visit, Dr. Saha discussed the design with Senior Architect Sanjiban Dutta, highlighting the government's proactive approach in addressing the state's healthcare needs.

"We know that there is a state homeopathy hospital here, and we are planning to open a homeopathy college. I have come to assess the overall management of this hospital. Several issues have been identified here. The Secretary and Director of the Health Department are also with me. I also spoke with patients during today's visit. Initiatives will be taken to provide scientific treatment to patients in this hospital. We will explore what more can be done in the future," Dr. Saha explained.

He emphasized the importance of making decisions based on actual conditions rather than solely on paper. "About 115 to 120 patients visit this hospital daily. However, we want more people to utilize these services. We will consider how to modernize the hospital. Necessary steps will be taken after addressing all the issues," he added.

Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitte and other officials accompanied the Chief Minister during the visit.
