Tripura News: Violent Clashes Erupt Between BJP and TIPRA Motha in Rajnagar ADC

Clashes between the ruling party alliance partners broke out in Tulashikhar-Rajnagar of Khowai in Tripura triggering tension and panic in the area for the last three days.

The clashes between the ruling BJP and it's ally TIPRA Motha Party (TMP) centred over gaining control of the East Rajnagar ADC Village Committee (VC). As no elections for the Village Committees were held, both the BJP and TMP claimed the control of the VC and prepared separate lists of beneficiaries of different Government schemes.

The BDO of the Tulashikhar held talks with the leaders of both the parties, but could not solve the crisis which later snowballed into violence.

It was alleged TMP supporters thrashed three BJP activists at the Tulashikhar Bazar on Thursday. In retaliation, alleged BJP supporters vandalised the TMP office at the Tulashikhar Bazar.

TMP activists, reportedly, locked the VC office at the East Rajnagar ADC Village on Friday. Later, they also assaulted one BJP supporter.

On Saturday, a group of miscreants, allegedly supporters of the TMP, raided the house of local BJP leader, Sutambar Debbarma. Sensing the danger, Debbarma fled away.

The TMP supporters were accused of assaulting the eight-month pregnant wife of Debbarma, and his brother Rustom Debbarma (27). Both are undergoing treatment at the Khowai District Hospital.

Before leaving the house, the alleged TMP supporters ransacked the house, and broke the furniture etc.

It was also alleged, TMP supporters attacked the house of another BJP leader Satya Debbarma and assaulted his wife and children.

The series of attacks sparked tension in Anath Choudhury Para, Haricharan Para and Matichhara in the East Rajnagar ADC Village. Out of fear, many of the traders are not opening their shops.

As the tension is palpable, Champahaur Police are conducting patrolling in the area along with the TSR and CRPF jawans.

Meantime, victims informed the media that a complaint was lodged.
