Tripura Police seize 2968 kg ganja from outbound vehicles

Tripura Police are working to curb the smuggling of ganja from Tripura to other states. Almost on regular basis, Police are seizing ganja from outbound vehicles. During the last 24 hours, Tripura Police managed to seize total 2968 kg ganja in two different raids at S K Para Naka-point under Manu Police station in Dhalai district along the NH-8.

Acting on a specific input, police led by the Officer-in-charge and other staff of Manu police station stopped a vehicle at SK Para check-post. Sensing trouble, the driver of the vehicle, however, managed to flee from the scene.

 

During the search, police recovered a total of 1330 kg ganja from the vehicle. Accordingly, police seized the vehicle and ganja as well as registered a case.

 

In a separate incident, Manu police seized another cache of 1638 kg ganja from one vehicle and succeeded in detaining the driver of the vehicle in this connection. The incident took place at SK Para check-post on Thursday morning.

 

During vehicle checking, Manu police led by SDPO, OC of Manu police station along with other staff stopped one vehicle at SK Para check-post and conducted a search. During the search police recovered 1638 kg ganja from the vehicle.

 

In this case, Police arrested the driver of the vehicle - Tapash Paul (29), a residence of Durgapur in Belonia under the South Tripura district.

 

Police registered a specific case under the NDPS Act in this connection.

 

While efforts of the Police force in curbing ganja smuggling are being appreciated by people, the in-flow of drugs in the State from other states is becoming a major concern. Drug pedlars are creating a dangerous situation as youths – no matter whether they hail from urban or rural areas – are increasingly becoming drug addicts.
