Tripura University hosted the G20 University Connect Lecture Series on ‘Engaging Young Minds’ as part of India’s Presidency of G20 on Wednesday (April 19).
The event was held at the MBB Auditorium and in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs and Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) with Tripura University. NETRA Foundation was the knowledge partner for the event.
The programme aimed to showcase the youth as cultural ambassadors who can develop long-lasting relationships with the G-20 fraternity, giving young Indians an opportunity to bring new perspectives and ideas to G20-related topics.
The State Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy addressed the gathering of youths and students, emphasizing that Tripura is making progress in the field of technology, with improved connectivity through roadways, railways, and airways.
The Minister also mentioned India's contribution to the world during the COVID pandemic, with the country manufacturing vaccines and exporting them to other nations as required.
Deputy Speaker of the Tripura Assembly, Ramprasad Paul highlighted that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working towards strengthening the country and building a self-reliant nation with the G20-like summit.
Former Diplomat of the Government of India, Ambassador Lalduhliana Ralte, IFS delivered the keynote speech on climate change and common but differentiated responsibilities of the nation, and other crucial issues.
Dr Dhanpat Ram Agarwal, the Director of the Institute of International Trade in Kolkata, took part in the event online and discussed the challenges of globalization and the emerging role of G20.
The event was graced by the Vice Chancellor of Tripura University Prof. Ganga Prasad Prasain, Vice Chancellor of MBB University Prof. Satyadeo Poddar, Founder and CMD of Bandhan Bank Chandra Sekhar Ghosh, and Steering Committee Convenor Dr. Jayanta Choudhury, among others.
After the inaugural session, a panel discussion on G20, Climate Change, and LiFE was held, moderated by Prof Indraneel Bhowmik of the Economics Department at Tripura University.
The discussion involved Assistant Professor of RIS, New Delhi Dr Sushil Kumar, Prof Sabyasachi Dasgupta of the Forestry Department at TU, and Scientific Officer of Tripura State Climate Change Cell, Sushanta Banik.
Later, students came up with topic-related questions and the panelists provided answers.
Dr Jayanta Choudhury delivered the Vote of Thanks, marking the end of a successful event aimed at engaging young minds and providing them with an opportunity to contribute to the G20.
