Surajit Dutta, a veteran politician and incumbent MLA of the Bharatiya Janata Party from the 7-Ramnagar constituency, passed away on Wednesday night while receiving treatment in a hospital outside Tripura. The state government declared a one-day state mourning on Thursday.
The mortal remains of Surajit Datta will be brought to Ramnagar tomorrow. He is survived by his wife and a daughter. He was 75 years old.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha condoled the demise of the Party MLA. In a social media post, Dr Saha wrote, “Saddened & pained by the demise of senior politician & sitting MLA of Bharatiya Janata Party Shri Surajit Dutta (Sunu Daa) during treatment in a hospital outside the State.
His demise is an irreparable loss in the State’s political arena.

Surajit Dutta was shifted outside the state for better treatment on Wednesday after his health condition deteriorated.
He was admitted to a private-run hospital in Agartala on Monday last following some health issues.
The Chief Minister, Union MoS Pratima Bhoumik, Leader of the Opposition Animesh Debbarma and several other ministers, and party leaders visited Dutta in the hospital on Tuesday.
