Village Council Polls: TIPRA Motha to submit deputation to DMs

TIPRA Motha, a regional political party which is in power at the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has decided to hit the street demanding immediate conduct of polls in the Village Councils.

 

As part of its programme the Party would conduct a peaceful protest on February 17 next and submit deputations to the DMs of all the eight districts in the State.

 

Speaking in a press conference on Saturday, the president of TIPRA Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl said that the party leaders, worker and supporters across the state will start a peaceful movement on February 17 next and will meet all the district magistrates in a deputation seeking immediate election in village council where the election was supposed to be held on March last year.

 

TIPRA-Motha-Tripura-News-VC-PollsHe also claimed that on 5th of this month the party had written a letter to the Governor of the state seeking election but the party have not received any reply from the Governor.

 


“We will convince the Governor again through the deputation. We are surprised that in many states election process has already started but In Tripura elections were stalled citing Covid pandemic”, Hrankhawl said.

 

Notably, as many as 785 village councils spread across the ADC areas of the state had their tenure expired much earlier but the elections could not be held due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.


He also pointed out the term of village councils has already ended,  decision to conduct the polls”, The TIPRA Motha leader also threatened to hold massive protest if their demands not fulfilled as soon as possible.
