In consonance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan ‘Vocal for Local’, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has encouraged the people of state to buy local products—it would provide supports to local artisans. As part of this movement, the State Government has planned number of initiatives including introduction of locally made 'Angabastram' for devotees at the Mata Tripureswari Temple.

If everything falls in right place, the devotees visiting Matabari in Udaipur would soon have Mata Tripurasundari Temple imprinted ‘Angabastram’.Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has made this announcement while encouraging people to buy local products at an event in Agartala on Monday.
The Chief Minister announced the state government is on the move to introduce Mata Tripura Sundari Temple imprinted ‘Angabastram’ so that the devotees can offer prayers in the temple by wearing such Angabastra—it would bring a traditional feel.
The proposed Angabastram would be made available soon which is expected to give a boost to handloom sector as well as tourism, he said.
Meanwhile, in an attempt to keep Coronavirus at bay, Diwali celebration at Mata Tripureswari Temple will be a low key affair as there will no ‘Diwali Mela’ and no cultural programme. Only special Puja will be performed and devotees must strictly adhere to social distancing. In addition, no makeshift stalls will be allowed. Gomati DM Dr TK Debnath said this at Udaipur on Monday while addressing a press meet.
“Diwali Mela will not be held in this year’s Deepavali Utsav at Mata Tripureswari Temple. Besides, no cultural programmes will be organized”, Dr Debnath said and added, no makeshift stalls will be allowed. “Only special puja of Mata Tripureswari will be held”, the DM said.
Among others, Gomati Zila Sabhadhipati Swapan Adhikari, MLAs Biplab Kumar Ghosh and Ramapada Jamatia, Additional SP of Gomati Sudip Pal, SDM of Udaipur Anirudha Roy were also present.
On the eve of Deepavali Utsav, donation box of Mata Tripureswari Temple was opened in presence of DCM Tanmoy Debnath and others. Sources said, after counting, Rs 6 lakh 19 thousand 185 were found. Notably, the last counting was held on March 11 last.
Even as this year’s Deepavali Utsav will be held without much of its usual grandeur, preparations to decorate the temple and its premises are going on in full swing. Works to brush up the Temple and other structures with new colours have started. Illumination works to celebrate the ‘festival of light’ are also going on in Temple and surrounding areas.
Notably, Mata Tripureswari Temple – one of the 51 pithas – hosted the largest Diwali Festival in the North East Region every year. Scores of devotees from all the State and from different countries would visit the Mela. However, due to Coronavirus Pandemic, this year, the festival will be observed without any mass gatherings and melas.
