January 30, 2018: As mentioned in Wikipedia, an idiom is a phrase or an expression that has a figurative, or sometimes literal, meaning. Categorized as formulaic language, an idiom’s figurative meaning is different from the literal meaning.
We are all aware about the meaning of ‘cloud’. However, when ‘cloud is used as an Idiom it may more efficiently express certain situations. Take for example:
Her emotions cloud her decision. This expression means ‘her emotions’ affects or rather weakens her decision. Similarly, ‘cloud of despair’ or ‘cloud of gloom’ is few other phrases which enhances writings.
However, cloud does not always imply grim and pale situation, it may express happiness too. Consider the following example:
I won the tournament. I am on cloud nine. This sentence means I very much happy after winning the tournament.
Like ‘cloud’, look at use of ‘foggiest’. While ‘cloud’ means weakening, foggiest has something different meaning. Take another example:
Ramen had not the foggiest idea that situation will turn violence.
This sentence implies that Ramen had no idea – no clue, about certain things.
