Agartala, March 30, 2020: As the shadow of Covid-19 is looming large, Tripura Deputy Chief Minister, Jishnu Dev Varma, also the State Finance Minister wrote a letter to chairman of Tata Trusts – Ratan Tata today and informed him about the requirement of the State Government to save the lives of people of Tripura from deadly clutches of coronavirus.
In his letter, Jishnu Dev Varma said, “I would like to bring to your kind attention about the requirement of following materials to prevent COVID-19 from becoming a huge outbreak in the State of Tripura” and added, the State requires 100 nos of Ventilators, 50000 nos of Personal Protection equipment, 100000 nos of N95 masks, 50000 nos of Alcohol based Hand Sanitizers, 500 nos of make shift tents for attending adult patients.

Focusing on emerging situation, Dev Varma in his letter said, “Our country being the home of the second largest population in the world faces a great challenge in fighting the menace of COVID-19. This immense challenge needs to be fought on all fronts and unitedly. The TATA TRUSTS symbolize humanitarianism and is a force that advances new frontiers of social and economic development”.

Fighting Covid-19: Tripura takes preventive steps
World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Corona Virus epidemic as pandemic and Government of India has declared COVID-19 epidemic as notified disaster. Accordingly, in the wake of spread of COVID-19 epidemic throughout the country, the State Government has taken numerous preventive steps keeping in view the importance of social distancing and isolation measures for containment of the spread of COVID-19, the Minister mentioned in his letter to Ratan Tata.

Dev Varma also said, “The situation solicits contributions from every possible side to hold us together. TATA TRUSTS has been a pioneer organization in stepping up to situations like this. The contribution of your organization to the North East Indian States also has been widely appreciated.
I would like to bring to your kind attention about the requirement of following materials to prevent COVID-19 from becoming a huge outbreak in the State of Tripura”.
In view of the above, I would request you to kindly look in to the requirement and extend your cooperation for donating to the extent possible so that the State may prevent COVID-19 from becoming a huge outbreak, Dev Varma concluded.
