First ever National Conclave on Sustainable Development Goal – SDG Conclave 2020 – will begin in Guwahati from February 24. Tripura Govt prepared Vision 2030 to meet SDGs

Agartala, February 18, 2020: The first ever National Conclave on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) will be held in Guwahati. The three-day SDG Conclave 2020 will commence from February 24 in which DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, CEO of NITI Aayog Amitabha Kant along with all the Chief Ministers of the North East will focus on and review ‘Partnerships, Co-operation and Development of North Eastern States’.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb will lead State delegates that will comprise of the Chief Secretary, Secretary of State Planning and other high level officials.
Vision 2030 for SDG
Notably, Tripura Government has already successfully formulated Vision 2030 along with Seven years strategy and three years action plan for meeting 16 parameters mentioned in the SDG. These parameters were divided into four ‘working groups’ – Social, Economic, Environment and Peace, Justice and Partnership.
The Chief Minister will focus on achievements as well as issues pertaining to implementation of projects in achieving the Goals. While, ‘ending poverty and hunger’ are the two topmost goals included under ‘Social’, ensuring inclusive health and quality education are two other parameters. In the Conclave, Biplab Kumar Deb will focus on several steps taken by his Government pertaining achieving ‘Social’ goals.
Sources said, in its last Budget, State Government augmented labour budget under MNREGA and increased man-days to combat the issue of poverty in rural areas. Moreover, Government’s decision to hike social pension was a major step in this direction. Besides, Government is committed to expedite construction of houses under PMAY for eligible beneficiaries.
The Chief Minister is expected to dwell on these issues elaborately and highlight achievements. Similarly, performance relating to rolling out Ayushman Bharat for every eligible person and emerging challenges after introduction of NCERT syllabus are likely to be discussed in details. The National SDG Conclave 2020 will jointly be organized by NITI Aayog, NEC, Government of Assam, UNDP India, Tata Trust and Research and Information system for Developing Countries. Sources said, the Conclave will hold several technical sessions in which issues of Northeast like identifying drivers of economic prosperity and sustainable livelihood, environmental issues etc. will be thoroughly analyzed and discussed.

State may place slew of demands
Since NITI Aayog is one of the organizers of the Conclave, delegates from Tripura is likely to place a slew of demands and seek NITI Aayog’s intervention to expedite growth initiatives of the State Government. Highly placed sources said, demand for changing funding pattern for ‘Smart City’ project is likely to be raised in the Conclave. At present, fund pattern is formulated on 50:50 – implying that out of total fund 50 per cent will be Central fund and State will have to cough up rest 50 per cent.
In this case, Tripura delegates led by Biplab Kumar Deb are likely to pitch for 90:10 funding pattern. Besides, fund grants by 15th Commission as per the State Government’s request and demand for more fund Externally Aided Projects – like World Bank and JICA projects – for ensuing holistic and sustainable growth of the State are likely to placed during the Conclave.
