Vivekananda Club emerge champions in the 3rd Division Football Final, defeating Swami Vivekananda Club 1-0 at Umakanta Mini Stadium in Agartala, earning promotion to the Second Division League after a thrilling upset victory.

Agartala (Tripura), June 3: In a dramatic finale under the floodlights of Umakanta Mini Stadium, Vivekananda Club clinched the championship title in the Third Division Football League on Tuesday, defeating Swami Vivekananda Club by a narrow 1-0 margin. With this hard-fought victory, Vivekananda Club has earned promotion to next year’s Second Division League, marking a significant milestone in their football journey.

Despite going up against the tournament favorites, Swami Vivekananda Club, the underdogs held their nerves and delivered a performance full of grit and determination. From the opening whistle, both teams displayed high-intensity football, engaging in a fierce contest for ball control and territorial dominance.

The match’s only goal came early, in the 7th minute, when Sohel Mia seized on a defensive lapse by Swami Vivekananda Club during a quick counter-attack. Demonstrating sharp reflexes and composure, Sohel slotted the ball past the goalkeeper, giving Vivekananda Club an early lead that would ultimately prove decisive.

Despite sustained pressure and numerous attacking opportunities, Swami Vivekananda Club struggled to break through the resolute defense of their opponents. Forward Kumar Debbarma missed several critical chances to level the score, adding to the frustration for the favored side. Vivekananda Club, on the other hand, tightened their backline in the second half, successfully absorbing the pressure and maintaining their slender lead until the final whistle.

Referee Satyajit Debray managed the high-stakes clash with firm control, cautioning two players from Vivekananda Club — Jubiyel Debbarma and Diba Jamatia — with yellow cards for unsporting behavior.

A celebratory mood took over the field after the final whistle, as players and fans of Vivekananda Club erupted with joy, marking their underdog triumph against a formidable opponent. The post-match award ceremony witnessed the presence of several eminent personalities, including Agartala Mayor Deepak Majumdar, Ajker Fariyad Editor Sanith Debray, State Football Association President and Agartala Press Club President Pranab Sarkar, Association Secretary Amit Chowdhury, and other senior officials of the football fraternity.

League Committee Secretary Tapan Saha expressed his gratitude to all participants, supporters, and organizing staff for ensuring the smooth execution of the tournament. Referee Association Secretary Narayan Dey also shared his appreciation for the fair conduct of the final match.

With this historic win, Vivekananda Club not only claimed the championship title but also sent a strong message about their potential as they gear up to compete in the Second Division League next season.
