Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has unveiled the bronze statue of great Ahom General Lachit Borphukan and his soldiers on the river Brahmaputra in Guwahati this evening. Lachit Borphukan defeated the mighty Mughals in the Battle of Saraighat. Several ministers along with Chief Secretary were also present in the unveiling program.
AIR Correspondent reports that the height of the statue of Lachit Borphukan is 35 feet. The total cost of the project was 8 crore and 25 lakh rupees. The concept was designed by artist Biren Singha and executed by the Assam Tourism Development Corporation Limited.
