Tripura CM asked TCA to hunt and groom rural talents for achieving quality sports in Tripura

Agartala, February 02, 2020: Find hidden talents from villages and groom them to excel in Cricket and other sports – instead of being city-based, take sports to rural areas as we need quality sports in Tripura, Chief Minister of Tripura, Biplab Kumar Deb told the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) today in Agartala.
“Construct stadium in every district of the State”, the Chief Minister said in TCA organized prize giving ceremony and felicitation programme for 2017-18 and 2018-19. Among others, Youth and Sports Affairs department Minister Manoj Kanti Deb and president of TCA Dr Manik Saha who is also State president of BJP were present in the programme.
Expand sports to rural areas, CM says
He said, “If sports become a centralized event, overall development and expansion sports will not be possible. We have two Cricket Stadiums at MBB College and Narsingarh in Agartala. It is imperative to build one stadium each in eight district”. Deb also hailed TCA’s decision to appoint cricket coaches in all the 1100 villages of the State. He pointed out that apart from Cricket, the State Government had taken initiatives for development of other sports as well. In this connection, the chief Minister said, Youth and sports Affairs department distributed several sports materials to 1100 clubs to encourage youth’s participation.
Notably, local sports lovers also hailed the decision to appoint Cricket coaches in all the villages of the State for development of the game.
Recalling contribution of Maharaja Birbikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur – hailed as architect of modern Tripura, Biplab Kumar said, Maharaja passed away only at 39 years; however, he left a bright legacy in expansion of education, infrastructure, setting up of industrial units, art and literature as well as sports. Deb said,
Tripura Cricket Association was formed in 1968 and it obtained life membership of BCCI in 1985.

He reiterated Government’s resolve to excel in sports and games. “Gymnasts Dipa Karmakar, Priyanka Dasgupta, Footballer Laxmita Reang and chess player Arshia Das brought laurels for Tripura – and we want many of such successful players from the State.
In his speech, the Chief Minister also focused on Union Budget proposals and exuded confidence that the Budget would be successful in employment generation as well as earnings of common people.
CM pays tribute to late young cricketer
Biplab Kumar Deb along with other dignitaries paid floral tribute to young cricket player Mitan Debbarma who collapsed in Cricket field and died recently. He handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakhs to deceased Mitan’s mother Namita Debbarma. In the programme total 148 sports personnel received trophies and cheque.
Among others, Youth and Sports Affairs department Minister Manoj Kanti Deb said that State Government had taken steps to bring out hidden talents from rural areas and expansion of the sports and games in every parts of the State. Dr Manik Saha said, there is no dearth of talented players in the State and Government has taken initiatives to improve them.
