He also told media that this port would achieve more significance once the trade link through Gomati river (inland waterway project) begun.
“This land port is located at a distance of 80 kilometres from Aricha Ghat port of Bangladesh, which is considered to be a very significant point in terms of trade in Bangladesh. This port (Srimantapur) will be connected automatically with the proposed inland waterway project once export-import activities get started in Srimanatapur jetty” Mishra said.
Flashback
Notably, the Sonamura land custom station, which was earlier supervised and maintained by the Industries and Commerce department of Tripura, had been handed over to Land Port Authority of India in view of its poor performance over the years, said sources. From now on, the port would be officially administered by the land Port authority.

In the year 2016, the land custom station had been inaugurated by the then Defence Minister and present Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
However, during his short visit along with a delegation of Land Port authority officials and BSF personnel, he interacted with the officials in order to take note on the major challenges they faced till now and directed the officials to take necessary actions.
“The Indian government is keen to promote better bilateral exchange with Bangladesh keeping Tripura in its centre point. Until and unless the hurdles regarding the administrative issues are resolved permanently it seems a hard goal to achieve. The state government is working wholeheartedly to resolve the problems, taking the centre in confidence. And, thus we are keeping watch on each and every development taking place related to inland water ways and international issues” said a highly placed source in the state government.
