Agartala, March 22, 2020: People of Tripura spontaneously observed Janata Curfew and stayed indoors today. Across the State, response to the appeal of the Prime Minister, echoed by Tripura governor Ramesh Bais and Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, was wholesome and total. In evening, whole State sprung into action and gave a rousing appreciation to medical personnel and other personnel for their services in the battle against Covid-19.
Janata Curfew total in Tripura
Citizens of the capital city Agartala stayed back home all the day and roads, motor stands, railway stations et al wore an unprecedented deserted look. The picture prevailed in district and sub-divisional towns as well as in rural hamlets. In short, almost everything remained shut in the State.
“In my 40 years long life, I never witnessed such deserted roads in Agartala. Always busy roads remained almost empty throughout the day, shops, markets – even small road side tea stalls remained shut. This is something unprecedented”, Opined an Agartala based Government employee. People stayed indoors, only a few ventured out for emergency purposes. In every sense, the city experienced a hustle-bustle free day as unusual calm prevailed. There were no rickshaw pullers either.
Emergency services remained unaffected. The temples, places of worships and other places where general gatherings could have taken place also remained closed. Adequate security personnel were deployed in the capital.
District and sub-divisional towns also witnessed similar responses. While main roads were empty, by lanes too wore a deserted look. Usual places of gatherings remained empty as people sincerely observed Janata Curfew. People, in rural areas, showed tremendous commitment and no one ventured out of their homes.
Huge appreciation for corona warriors
Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb and his mother are saluting corona warriors in AgartalaOnly at 5pm in the evening, daylong silence was broken as air was reverberated with a mix of sounds of clapping, conch blowing and drum-beating. People – men and women – of all ages cutting across all sections of the society rushed to their balconies with conch shells, gongs, drums and even with utensil to acknowledge services of medical personnel and other persons in the battle against coronavirus. They blew conch shells, beat drums, gongs and utensils while others kept on clapping in the largest ever appreciation drive for corona warriors.

People of district and sub-divisional towns also gave a big hand in appreciating the medicos. Air of rural and Hill Tripura reverberated with sounds of spontaneous appreciation and gratitude.
“It is unbelievable that villagers – both Bengalis and indigenous communities – stayed indoors all through the day and then, blew conches or clapped overwhelmingly without any campaign or series long speeches by political leaders. Understanding and awareness of common people of Tripura is laudable”, said one villager of Kalashi Tribal village under South Tripura district.
