Agartala, April 30, 2020: In an attempt to bolster agriculture of Tripura to overcome lockdown blues, the State has announced Paddy procurement from the farmers through FCI. The procurement drive will commence from May 15 next. Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said this on April 29 after an All Party meet in Agartala on Covid19 pandemic situation.
He said, Govt will procure paddy from state’s farmers through FCI from May 15 next following which the farmers will receive huge benefits.
Meanwhile, during lockdown, farmers have already received benefits from various Central and State sponsored schemes, Deb said and added, State Government has distributed jhum seeds to 7000 Shifting cultivators ( Jhumiya) free of cost along with six mandays work for jhumiyas at the rate of Rs 202.
In this connection, Deb also highlighted other steps taken by the Government for assisting underprivileged people and labourers of unorganized sectors. Moreover, Rs 500 financial help was provided to each of 93 thousand families living in “Aspirational Blocks”.
These steps – providing assistance to rural people and underprivileged will help to maintain market demand, experts opined.
Even as lockdown in force, the State Government allowed 50 out of 70 industrial units to resume functioning.
It may noted here that Biplab Kumar Deb, in one of his earlier speeches stressed on harnessing Primary Sectors of the State – Agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, Fisheries and Animal Husbandry – and ensure speedy recovery from losses due to Coronavirus induced lockdown.
As we are accepting that a worldwide crisis is going on, we can’t expect that everything would go on in proper way. Everything can’t be ok in any pandemic situation.

Lockdown will continue till May 3 next. Now, lockdown is the only way to get rid of the Corona pandemic.
It is not easy to completely come out from the lockdown within a short period. It will take long time as the inter-state bus service, air service and train service are non functional.
We have to accept the lockdown as part of our regular routine until we get a vaccine for COVID19.
