Agartala Apr 23: Jitendra Choudhury, the LoP of Tripura and CPIM Politburo member, has sharply criticized the central government’s security policies following a devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The brutal assault, which claimed the lives of 28 tourists and injured several others, has intensified scrutiny over the state of security and normalcy in the region.

Choudhury Denounces ‘Heinous’ Attack, Demands Accountability

In a statement, Choudhury condemned the militant attack as a “heinous” and “barbaric” act that threatens the peace and stability of Jammu and Kashmir. Expressing deep solidarity with the victims, the CPIM MLA offered heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured. “My heart goes out to the victims and their families during this tragic time,” he said.

In a video message, Choudhury directly challenged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government’s claims of restored peace in Jammu and Kashmir. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of promoting “empty” and “misleading” narratives about normalcy. “The government has repeatedly touted peace and harmony in Jammu and Kashmir, but the ruthless killing of innocent tourists in Pahalgam reveals a grim reality,” Choudhury stated. He cited the attack as a clear sign of the government’s inability to tackle cross-border terrorism and ensure public safety.

Call for Justice and Enhanced Security Measures

Choudhury stressed that safeguarding India’s national security is of utmost importance and pressed the central government to adopt stringent measures to prevent future attacks. “The government must own up to its failures and ensure such horrific incidents are not repeated,” he asserted. He demanded a thorough investigation to hold the perpetrators accountable, insisting that those behind the “ghastly” attack face severe legal consequences.

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly condemns the barbaric killing of 28 tourists in Jammu and Kashmir by terrorists. The CPIM extends deepest condolences to the families of the innocent people who lost their lives in the attack. Several people have suffered serious injuries in the attack. The CPIM extends wishes for their speedy recovery.

The perpetrators of the horrific crime must be apprehended and punished. The police and security forces are under the Central Government. The Central Government must leave no stone unturned in bringing the forces responsible for the dastardly attack to justice. The perpetrators of the crime are the enemies of the nation and more so of the people of Kashmir. It is incumbent on the Central Government to probe all angles of the attack including the lack of security in crowded tourist places.
