In the wake of a minor girl murder in Tripura allegation, Jitendra Choudhury terms it a ‘grave warning’ and came down heavily on the incumbent BJP.
Agartala, May 22, 2025: In a scathing attack on the ruling BJP government, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Tripura and CPIM Politburo member Jitendra Chaudhury on Thursday condemned the alleged murder of a nine-year-old girl in his constituency, linking the tragedy to what he described as a ‘deepening social’ and ‘administrative crisis’ in the state.
Terming the incident a ‘grave warning’ to society, Chaudhury extended his condolences to the bereaved family and said the tragedy reflects the deteriorating law and order situation under the BJP regime.
“Crimes such as abductions, unnatural deaths, and murders are no longer isolated incidents but are increasingly becoming routine in Tripura,” Chaudhury told the media.
“This is symptomatic of a larger socio-economic breakdown fostered by years of administrative neglect and policy failure”, the LoP claimed.
Youth Frustration Fueling Crime and Addiction: LoP
The veteran communist leader held the state government directly responsible for the rise in criminal activities, arguing that rampant unemployment and a dearth of educational and professional opportunities have created a climate of frustration among Tripura’s youth.

“For the past seven and a half years, this government has failed to fulfill the aspirations of the people. Educated and semi-educated young people are languishing without employment”.
“In such a vacuum, many fall prey to substance abuse, and this addiction becomes a breeding ground for criminal behaviour,” Chaudhury said.
He dismissed the state government’s recent recruitment drives as superficial and insufficient to address the systemic collapse.

“These job announcements are mere tokenism in a vast employment desert. No new departments or positions have been created. The number of government employees is shrinking due to retirements, and only now are those posts being slowly refilled,” he asserted.
Deliberate Undermining of Public Institutions: LoP
Chaudhury further accused the BJP-led government of deliberately weakening the state’s public health and education systems. He alleged a systematic push towards privatization without adequate regulation or accountability.

“Healthcare tells the same story. Private nursing homes are sprouting across Agartala as people increasingly turn away from public hospitals. Yet, the government exercises no control over the exorbitant fees being charged.”
Call for Public Introspection and Government Accountability
The CPIM Politburo member emphasized the need for a collective societal introspection and called upon the public to scrutinize the root causes behind the growing incidents of violence, especially those involving minors.

“This incident is not just about a single tragedy; it’s a wake-up call. The social fabric is fraying under this administration. Unless immediate and sincere corrective steps are taken, such horrifying events may become the new normal,” he warned.
Jitendra Chaudhury concluded with a call for a people-centric governance model that prioritizes job creation, educational equity, and robust public services over “rhetoric and hollow announcements.”
