Agartala, December 03, 2019: North East Indian state Mizoram has turned into the top ranking state with highest incidences of HIV/AIDS cases, as the latest official estimate figuring 17,897 people infected with HIV till November this year. Officials from the Mizoram State AIDS Control Society (MSACS) said this while observing the World AIDS Day on December 1 last.

According to the official figures, HIV infections were highest among the able-bodied youth at the age group of 25 to 34 years at 42.38%. The State AIDS Control Society further observed that the HIV infections were earlier at higher side among the high-risked groups like Intravenous drug users and commercial sex workers, which is, at present, indicating that sex has become the main medium of spreading the HIV.
Meanwhile, the state government has sought cooperation from all Churches and civil society organisations to fight against the menace and to arrest the spread of HIV/AIDS in the state.
