The Mukhyamantri State Talent Search Programme demonstrates the Tripura Government’s dedication to nurturing sporting talent among women athletes.
Financial Assistance for Women Athletes
A total of 66 women players from the state have received one-time financial assistance under the Mukhyamantri State Talent Search Programme to access top-class training facilities. The initiative, which was introduced in the 2023-24 financial year, aims to support talented female athletes by providing them with the necessary resources to excel in national and international competitions.
In response to a question raised by Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman during the ongoing Assembly budget session, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy informed the House that the programme was proposed in the 2023-24 state budget. The primary objective is to provide financial aid to women athletes who have showcased outstanding performances across various sports disciplines.

Shortage of Physical Instructors in Schools
The Assembly session also highlighted the concerning shortage of Physical Instructors (PIs) in schools across the state. Minister Roy revealed that out of 579 high schools, only 77 have dedicated Physical Instructors. Similarly, in the 429 Higher Secondary +2 schools, only 158 institutions have PIs, with a total of 169 PIs deputed.
This leaves 762 schools across the state without a single Physical Instructor, raising concerns about the lack of proper physical education and sports training for students. However, the Minister reassured the House that steps are being taken to address this issue. “Notifications have already been issued for the recruitment of 301 Junior Physical Instructors under Group C category,” he said, indicating the government’s commitment to strengthening sports education at the school level.
