Reflecting on the past, Das remarked that the region was once synonymous with terrorism, insurgency, and political instability. “There was a time when the Northeast was known for violence and unrest. That image has changed dramatically. Today, it stands at the forefront of growth and innovation, particularly in sectors like energy and semiconductors,” he stated.
Energy and Semiconductor Hub
The Minister credited Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for prioritizing the region’s growth, noting that the Northeast is now a vital hub for the energy and semiconductor industries. “Despite its vast potential, the region was historically overlooked. That changed after PM Modi took charge,” Das added.
Das further highlighted several initiatives introduced since 2014 aimed at the holistic development of the Northeast. He emphasized that the Centre not only launched schemes but also ensured effective monitoring and implementation. “Union Ministers are regularly visiting Tripura and other Northeastern states to evaluate project progress and ensure timely execution,” he said.
Referencing a recent visit, Das mentioned Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh’s trip to Tripura. Singh commended the developmental efforts under the BJP-led state government headed by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha. During his visit, the Union Minister inaugurated a state-of-the-art milk processing plant with a capacity of 40,000 litres per day, established by the Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd in Bamutia, West Tripura.
