Agartala, February 05, 2019: Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today highlighted the industrial prospects of the state and focused on potentiality of Rubber based industries in the State. The Chief Minister who was addressing the 2nd ASEAN youth summit held at Guwahati, claimed, “Once the waterways connectivity with Bangladesh gets completed within a year, Tripura will become the gateway to the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asia Nations) countries for the NE region”. He said, “My state along with all its North Eastern counterparts has the potential to become industrial superpowers.
In the recent past North East was nowhere but thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Act East policy the entire region got connectivity access in all possible manner. And soon the water way connection with the Chittagong Port will boost the development in manifold. ”
Describing the North Eastern region as “Youth” he justified, the North East is still young as most of the area remained unexplored but being the doorway for the ASEAN countries it gives the youth entrepreneurs from these countries a chance to try their luck in building up the North East making Tripura, the launch pad.
Counting the advantages in terms of raw materials that the state already has, he said, after Kerala Tripura becomes the most Rubber producing state—80,000 Mt per annum which will be doubled by next year as a huge area of immature plants are going to be productive, it also has a good availability of Gas which makes it well equipped to supply necessary Carbon for the Tyre industry.
Drawing his concern over the Tourism sector, he said, there is a huge increase in the foreign tourist traffic; foreigners are preferring North East as an ultimate tourist destination as it has religious spots, adventurous regions and of course a vibrant cultural essence that no other part of the country can depict with.
Among the others, BJP national General Secretary Ram Madhab Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu and Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio also addressed the gathering.
