Agartala, June 26, 2019: The Tripura Government has set its target to complete all the works of Agartala Smart City Mission by 2020. Moreover, Tripura topped among the North Eastern States in implementing PMAY while supply of drinking water to all households in Agartala will be ensured under Atal Jal Dhara Mission within next 2-3 years. Special secretary to Tripura Urban Development department, Kiran Gitte and Director of the department, Dr. Milind Ramteke said this today in Agartala. 

Gitte and Ramteke addressed media today highlighting progress of three Urban-flagship programmes – Prime Minister Awaas Yojana (PMAY), Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and Smart City Mission, introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 25, 2015.

“Under Smart City Mission, Rs. 2000 crore has been sanctioned for development of the city – central share Rs. 500 crore, state’s share Rs. 500 crore and the share of Public Sector (including Asian Development Bank) is Rs. 1000 crore,” Gitte told the reporters. Listing out projects which were implemented and works in-progress under Smart City Mission, Gitte also shed lights on several other projects like – road development, modernization of Ujjayanta Palace, development of both flanks of Haora River, flood control, rejuvenation of water reservoirs, Integrated Command and Control Centre (an IT Project) – for which funds have been allocated.

Director of Urban Development department- Dr. Milind Ramteke said Tripura was in the top position in terms of implementing Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY). “State government set its target to construct 85, 550 buildings – and, construction of 26, 206 houses has already been completed while 19, 697 houses are under construction,” Dr. Ramteke told the reporters at secretariat. Under this project, he said, the centre gave Rs. 1.50 lakh and the state government contributed Rs. 16, 666 for construction of each house- the fund sharing ratio is 90:10.

On March 3 last, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken ‘Light House Project’ for the needy people of sis states- Gujrat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu and Tripura. Altogether 1000 needy families would be given houses under this project at Border Golchakkar area in Agartala and Rs. 3.50 lakh would be required for construction of each house, Dr. Ramteke said and added, that only Agartala was selected for implementation of AMRUT. Under this flagship programmes, amenities for city dwellers, particularly citizen belonging financially weak and backward sections, will be improved – and availability of drinking water is one of the important component of the Project. The State Government has decided to provide access to supply of drinking water to all the Household under Atal Jal Dhara Mission within 2-3 years.
