Agartala, January 03, 2019: After long gap, ‘Beat Policing’ has made a comeback as Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb announced of reintroduction of age old and time tested ‘beat policing’ system in the state.
While addressing the inaugural programme of the Police Week – 2019 today at A D Nagar police in Agartala, Deb said, “For developing close relationship with public, for strengthening police effectiveness and encourage cooperative efforts to make a safer community ‘beat policing’ will be started again in each police station. Beat constable will patrol on motorcycle which will provide more interactions between police and community members which will help reducing various crimes”.
The Chief Minister asked DGP Akhil Kumar Shukla to review the work of each police station and TSR battalion after every three months. After review of work the best of police man, police station and TSR battalion will be felicitated by the government. By this police work efficiency will increase and develop a healthy completion among themselves.
“For making the state a model one, police and TSR have a major role to play. A first step to model state is making it drug free. And only by sincere effort of police the state can be freed of from the menace of drugs and ganja” the Chief Minister said.
Appreciating police, Deb said, “Now they are doing good job in battling against drugs. From constable and to DGP, a mentality has been created of working in a concerted manner for making the state drugs free”.
He asked the police to be well mannered as they happened to be the face of the government. “Tourism is fast achieving a new dimension in the State, footfalls of domestic and international tourists are increasing each day. By their good manners a people friendly image will be created in outside and this will benefit the state in development of tourism”, observed the Chief Minister.
Deb called upon the police to be ‘smart’. And to give the Tripura police a new and smarter look the government had already taken some initiatives, for example as first step the TSR had got combat fatigues.
“If the police personnel become smart, their work efficiency will automatically change”. Earlier a colourful parade was conducted by all battalions of TSR, state police, home guards and traffic police. Chief Minister took salute of the marching contingents. DGP and other senior police officials were present in the programme.
