Agartala, July 10, 2019: An FIR was filed against Left Front convener and former CPIM State secretary Bijan Dhar for fomenting communal tension. BJP Mandal secretary of Dharmanagar in North Tripura Shyamal Nath today lodged case with IPC 153 (A) and 505 (1) (C) with local Police.
Taking strong exception to a TV interview, in which Bijan Dhar reacting on violent clashes between BJP and CPIM at West Chandrapur in Dharmanagar on Sunday claimed that BJP supporters had set afire a ‘Masjid’ – the statement which was found to be a blatant lie and BJP filed complaint with Police accusing Dhar of wilfully instigating communal hatred.
Local CPM leaders, however, distanced themselves from Dhar’s ‘Masjid fire’ statement – “It was a political clash”, Party sources said on condition of anonymity without commenting on Dhar’s statement.
Meanwhile, Police arrested one person out of 21 accused involved in unleashing violence on BJP supporters at West Chandrapur Gram Panchayat on Sunday last. Acting on tip-off, Dharmanagar OC Milan Datta picked up Md Nuruddin (45) from a house at West Chandrapur today. Police also recovered a machete (Dau) used in Sunday clash. During interrogation, Nuruddin confessed his involvement, sources said. Sources said, with Nuruddin’s arrest Police will be able to net other accused persons very soon.
