December 09, 2018: A regional Party of Tripura – INPT will stage dawn to dusk road and rail blockades at three different places in the State tomorrow. INPT will hold the blockades protesting against the proposed Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016, said INPT general secretary Jagadish Debbarma tonight.
The road blockade would be held mainly in three locations- Baramura, Ambassa, Hezamara etc., for 12 hours. The agitation comes a day before winter session of the Parliament, scheduled to commence from Tuesday next.
“The proposed Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016, poses a serious threat to north-eastern states. If the Bill is passed in the Parliament, the illegal immigrants will become genuine Indian citizens”, Debbarma added.
“We are opposed to such Amendment, as we are facing the burnt of illegal immigration. Being a bordering state, we will be the worst affected if the Bill gets ratified”, the INPT leader claimed.
INPT filed a petition with the Supreme Court seeking NRC revision in the state. The party is waiting for the date of hearing at the Supreme Court. They have already got case number, diary number.
In October last, INPT leaders called on members of an inter-ministerial high power committee, formed by the Union Home Ministry to study socio-cultural, linguistic and economic problems of tribes living in the state and demanded introduction of inner line permit.
