Agartala, February 01, 2019: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today hailed the Interim Budget tabled in Parliament by Union Finance Minister Piyush Goyal. Congratulating the Union Finance Minister, Biplab Kumar Deb said, allocation for North Eastern States has been augmented by 21 per cent. The proposal will provide further impetus to growth process in the region.
Elaborating further, Deb said, the Interim Budget will be beneficial for farming communities and working class people. In this connection, he mentioned about tax relief for salaried people and pensioners. Deb also expressed satisfaction for increasing allocation for MNREGA.
State CPI-M leaders, however, slammed the Budget proposals. Reacting to Interim Budget proposals, CPI-M MLA and Former Minister Badal Choudhury said, several proposals for welfare of commoners were made in the Budget, but the Union Finance Minister did not mention about source of funding for these proposals. Choudhury also coined the Budget as a ‘Jumla’ budget. Badal Choudhury appeared to be suspicious about implementation of Interim Budget proposals as he said, “It remains to be seen how many proposals of the Budget get implemented by the next Government after ensuing LS Polls”. Veteran CPI-M leader Pabitra Kar also slammed the Budget.
State Congress leaders also criticized the Budget and termed it as ‘Poll Gimmick’. Reacting to Budget proposals, Tripura Pradesh Congress leader Harekrishna Bhowmik in his reaction said, “the budget was political gimmick by Modi government ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. It is not a pro-people budget at any senses. The Interim Budget is not going to help the poor sections of people.”
