Agartala, May 26, 2019: Flood situation in Dharmanagar in North Tripura and Kailashahar under Unakoti district marginally improved. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb is closely monitoring the emerging situation.
Local administration in Kailashahar and Dharmanagar have set up temporary relief camps and rescuing people. An NDRF team with five rescue boats reached Dharmanagar today morning to strengthen rescue operation.
Large areas of Dharmanagar and Kailashahar were inundated after rains lashed out on Friday. Local sources said, both the Kapri and Juri Rivers are flowing above the danger level. Even as rains stopped, floodwater is not receding fast due to overflowing rivers.
Sources said, the Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb who is in New Delhi with two newly elected MPs from Tripura,
is in regular contact and monitoring the flood situation. Deb directed the top officials of the administration to ensure rescue operation and distribution of relief materials to affected people. The Chief Minister’s Office is maintaining regular communication with officials.
Meanwhile, an NDRF team reached Dharmanagar today morning with five boats. Local administration pressed the
team into rescue operation. Administration set up four relief camps in which around 400 families took shelter. In
Dharmanagar, Signal Basti near Rail station, Kameshwar, Kakrir Paar, Sonarubasha are the worst affected
areas. Along with the administration, volunteers of Mahila Morcha of BJP also extended hand in rescue and relief
operations.
In Kailashahar, DM of Unakoti reviewed the flood situation. A 13-member team had already reached Kailashahar
– moreover, another 18 member team will also reach soon. Several other initiatives have been taken to tackle
emergency situations.
