Agartala, Jun 09: It’s again time for Political parties to lock horns with each other as Tripura is scheduled to hold three tier Panchayat Polls shortly.
As the buzz of Lok Sabha elections is fading out gradually with a land sliding victory for the ruling BJP, all the political parties in Tripura are gearing up preparations for upcoming Panchayat Polls. As part of initial level preparations to the polls, some of the parties have already issued notifications and are holding internal discussions to chalk out strategies.
Buoyed after better show in the Lok Sabha polls compared to last Assembly elections, Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee had on today convened its state committee meeting at Congress Bhavan to discuss about strategies for the forthcoming polls. State president of the Party is learnt to have directed all District Committee leaders to hold meetings in block levels and ask for candidate lists.
Clearly, TPCC is eyeing on participation of grass root workers in preparing candidates’ list rather than imposing one. Moreover, TPCC leaders will also visit various district offices to hold meetings on the panchayat polls from Jun 18 next.
Sources in the party said, Congress party is eyeing on the Panchayat polls with same intensity as it did in Lok Sabha elections. All the party leaders who have attended the meeting today, including Lok Sabha contestant Subal Bhowmik, former President Birajit Sinha, General Secretaries and representatives of the other wings unanimously agreed to fight the polls with same enthusiasm.
On the other hand, even though, BJP and IPFT, partners in the ruling BJP-IPFT ruling government, had fought the Lok Sabha elections on their own, both the parties are still willing to discuss the poll prospects before the Panchayat elections.
IPFT General Secretary and Minister of Forest Mevar Kumar Jamatia said, before the Panchayat elections, we will meet to take a final call on the strategies on Panchayat elections. “We have many demands regarding the elections but when it comes to contesting an election we will discuss about the matter thoroughly” he added.
However, CPIM state secretary Goutam Das, who is out of state to attend the central committee meeting of the party, declined to say anything right now. And sources in the BJP party also remained tight-lipped to say anything regarding the issue but hinted that preparations had been geared up to fight the polls with all seriousness with the hope that the party would carry forward its LS performance in Panchayat Polls.
