Agartala, February 06, 2019: A team of Special Protection Group (SPG) arrived in Agartala today and held a meeting with senior Police officials to review the security arrangements at Swami Vivekananda Ground in Agartala for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally on Saturday. The team also visited the rally ground. The Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate several projects during his State visit.
Security arrangements have been reviewed ahead of Modi’s visit and monitored the coordination between intelligence agencies and security forces. On its part, the district administration also beefed up preparations, after rounds of high-level meetings.
According to sources in the police department, the state police and other law enforcing wings have already intensified the security shield throughout the city. The subdivision level officers were also directed to keep a close watch over the area of their operation and to rapidly address sensitive issues, if appear any.
A highly placed sources said, Police have already kicked off operations like anti-sabotage checking and random vehicle checking since last week. And in the newly added operations, sources said, we are scanning all the hotels, sensitive locations and dormitories where outsiders usually take shelter. The tenants are also under scanner; in some areas police officials have started verifying details of the paying guests.
Meanwhile, a multi-tier security arrangement will be put in place ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state. “Tight security arrangements will be made ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit to the state,” a senior Police official said. “Close vigil is being maintained all along the Indo-Bangla international border and BSF troops are put on high alert”, he added.
Meanwhile, the decorative measures are also in the high. Laborers are working night and day in and out the ground. New welcome hoardings will also be placed throughout the city.
“As of now, there is no scheduled meeting between Prime Minister and party leaders of the state on the strategy for the Lok Sabha polls”, said BJP leader Rajib Bhattacharjee. The party which has no Lok Sabha MP from the state, at present, is eying to win both the seats.
