Agartala, May 12, 2019: Barring few incidences, re-election to 168 polling stations under West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency passed off peacefully and voters’ turnout was recorded to be 72.3 percent till 5 pm, sources said.
Tight and elaborate security arrangements were made in 168 polling stations and the Central Armed Para-military Forces (CAPFs) personnel manned the booths.
“Re-polls to 168 polling stations recorded 72.3 percent turnout till 5 pm. The poll percentage will increase to some extent in the final reports because polling was going on in a few booths till the last information came in,” Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sriram Taranikanti told media today evening in Agartala.
The re-election was broadly peaceful so far, the CEO claimed while congratulating the voters for exercising their democratic rights. However, sources said, around 4-5 BJP supporters received injuries as CAPF personnel resorted to Lathi Charge to disperse saffron activists who were busy in cooking food for BJP poll workers at a place in Kakraban-Shalgarah area under Gomati District. In a separate incident, local Congress leader of Bishalgarh in Sepahijala district alleged that he was attacked by miscreants. Barring such incidences, there is no report of any major untoward incidents, sources said.
