September 29, 2018: The State Government observed the “Parakram Parv” to mark the second anniversary of the surgical strikes against Pakistan at Elbert Ekka Park in Agartala today.
The event was organized to highlight the courage, valour and sacrifice of the officers and Jawans of the Indian Army.
Chief Minister Biplab Deb inaugurated the programme and lauded the bravery of Indian armed forces in carrying out the surgical strikes against Pakistan across the Line of Control in 2016.
“I salute the unmatched valour of our brave soldier Elbert Ekka”, said Deb.
In a tweet he wrote, “I bow to the courage and sacrifice of the bravehearts who protect our nation. India will forever be grateful to its armed forces”.
Later, the Chief Minister visited the residence of Veer Chakra awardee Rabi Debbarma who sacrificed his life during an operation of Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka. Two years ago, on the intervening night of 28/29 September, India struck enemy camps across the border to avenge cowardly killing of its men in uniform, the only third country in the world other than USA and Israel to do so.
The surgical strike was carried out by Indian army nearly 10 days after 18 jawans were killed in Uri by an unprecedented attack by terrorists.
The strikes were carried out in Bhimber, Hotspring, Kel and Lipa sectors, on Pakistani side of LoC, according to reports while the location was about 500 meters to 1.5 km across LoC.
Various exhibitions were on show including the Army weapons and equipment. Motivational movies were also shown to the students and NCC cadets.
Students and people in large numbers visited the event and interacted with Army personnel there to understand their sacrifices towards protecting the nation from enemies. Among others, MLA Dr. Dilip Kumar Das and AMC Mayor Dr Prafullajit Sinha were present.
