December 13, 2018: Within a span of almost two weeks, once again ganja was found in Agartala MBB Airport today. According to available reports, ganja packed in 17 boxes –each weighting around 10 kg and totaling approximately 170 kg – was booked in Air India Cargo as ‘fish container’. However, during x-ray screening, suspicious packets were found and concerned authority informed the Airport Police. Later, Police recovered and seized the ganja packets and detained one Amitabha Datta and two others.
It may be noted, only a couple of weeks ago, ganja was seized from the Airport. With Police vigil stepped up, ganga operatives are finding it difficult to transport ganja out of the State and adopting various innovative techniques including using ambulance, empty outbound oil tankers and air route.
As the trend to take ganja out the State using air route became obvious, security in the Airport was beefed up .
Police is interrogating detained Amitabha Datta and two other persons. According to sources, apparently it appeared the consignment was booked in a confusing manner – without mentioning consignee or mentioning destination. Only name of one Courier service Company was mentioned, however it remains to be verified whether the Company is a real one or fictitious. “Interrogation may shed light on the details”, Police sources said.
