Agartala, January 18, 2019: The Border Security Force posted at Sonamura sub-division today recovered large quantity of Cannabis, hidden in underground in the jungles of Lacharbari, near Anandpur BOP of Sonamura police station.
Based on specific information, a joint of police and BSF led by A K Singh, Assistant Commandant of BSF, and SDPO (Sonamuara) Sauvik Deb carried out a massive search at the forest areas of Lacharbari. Sensing the presence of security forces a group of smugglers who were busy with digging of earth to bury their consignment had fled away by taking the advantage of darkness and forest growth. The joint operation party thoroughly searched the suspected area and found 2 plastic drums of compressed Ganja and dogged out another 6 drums from the place.
Total weight of Ganja recovered both over and under the ground at 292 kilograms amounting to Rs. 14.6 lakh. The Sonamura police station registered a specific case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS act) and started investigation to arrest smugglers involved in this case.
