Agartala, April 05, 2019: In yet another incidence of intimidation, miscreants disrupted an election rally of CPIM at Taidu under Gomati district today. Miscreants rushed into the rally ground while CPIM nominee Jitendra Choudhury was delivering speech. Prompt action by security personnel rescued the leaders unhurt.
Tension runs high in Taidu market after a group of IPFT supporters allegedly backed by BJP attacked the rally of CPIM nominee for East Tripura parliamentary seat and incumbent Lok Sabha MP Jitendra Choudhury this afternoon. Four CPIM supporters were injured in the attack. The incident prompted Police to rush to the spot.
Apart from the attack, the IPFT supporters also damaged the vehicles of Chaudhury and others. CPIM, however, filed a complaint against the IPFT miscreants and took up the incident with Election Commission seeking directives.
“It was around 11.30 am. Choudhury accompanied by two former Ministers- Naresh Jamatia and Ratan Bhowmik was addressing the party workers at Taidu market. Suddenly, around 15-16 people rushed to the spot. They were carrying daggers and sticks. They first attacked our party supporters and also ransacked the vehicles of CPIM leaders that were parked in front of it. When some of our party workers tried to resist them, they were also beaten”, said a CPIM leader.
Reacting to the incidence, Jitendra Choudhury urged the BJP-led Government to ensure proper democratic ambience so that Opposition candidates can exercise their democratic rights to hold poll meetings. Taking a dig at Chief Minister’s addiction free Tripura slogan, Choudhury alleged, miscreant – all in highly inebriated condition – attacked the rally and ransacked the vehicles, created panic among the common people.
He also said, “Had CPIM would launch attack on its opponent during last Assembly Polls, BJP leaders would not be able to hold meetings in interior areas”.
