Agartala, Jul 08: Close on the heels of contraband drug recoveries by BSF, security personnel in Tripura tasted major success today and seized Brown Sugar of worth Rs one crore from Ambassa under Dhalai district in Tripura today.
According to reports, police seized a motorcycle and detained two persons identified as Khukan Debnath and Rupan Debnath from Amabssa bank Chowmuhani during a random vehicle checking drive.
Initially, police recovered two pouches of suspected brown sugar from their possession. Both of them were brought to the police station and subjected to interrogation.
Later on, a police team under the supervision of executive magistrate conducted a search operation at Khukan Debnath’s residence. Sources in the police informed this newspaper that two medium-sized drums were found kept underground.
“We recovered 490 gram of brown sugar equally pegged in 32 pouches were from the drums along with cash of rupees 5 lakh 34 thousand 5 hundred. We also arrested Rita Debnath, wife of Khukan Debnath after the search operation” said police sources.
SDPO Amabassa Asish Dasgupta said, “It is the biggest recovery of all time in Ambassa. We have arrested three people in connection with the case—Rupan Debnath, Khukan Debnath and his wife Rita Debnath. Preliminary investigations suggested that all of them are part of a nexus of drug dealers. We have activated our sources in all parts of the districts and soon everyone connected with the nexus will be tracked down.”
Earlier, BSF personnel seized YABA tablets and Phensedyl of worth more than Rs 1 Lakh from bordering areas under Sepahijala district in Tripura yesterday.
