Agartala, January 14, 2019: Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has inaugurated the auspicious Poush Sankranti Mela at Tirthamukh situated near Dumbur Lake under Gomati district in Tripura today in presence thousands of devotees. He along with his wife Niti Vidrohi Deb also enjoyed the beauty of Damboor Lake in a boat journey today.

Welcoming thousands of devotees, most people of various indigenous communities of the State, Biplab Kumar Deb requested the crowd to abide by all kinds of law and order to keep peace in the fair surrounding.  Among others, Tribal Welfare Minister Mever Kumar Jamatia, Tourism Minister Pranajit Sinha Roy also attended the inaugural function.

Thousands of devotees assembled in Tirthamukh to offer prayer to the ancestors after taking holy dip on Dumbur Lake. Colourful cultural programme on tribal folk culture have been organized to mark the traditional programme gorgeous. Tirthamukh Mela has been an auspicious ritual for indigenous people of the state since the princely regime. A large number of stalls and shops have been opened for the devotees in the fair.

Biplab Deb also went to Narkelkunja, one of the attractive tourism spots of Tripura, as part of his visit to Karbook sub-division. He along with his wife Niti Vidrohi Deb enjoyed serene beauty and hypnotic views of Dumbur lake and Narkelkunja. During his visit, the Chief Minister inspected the facilities available for tourists and instructed the officials concerned to enhance tourist-friendly services to attract more visitors.

Meanwhile, security measures have been beefed up from Jatanbari to Tirthamukh to thwart any untoward incident during the two-day festival. The TRTC has arranged special management to operate special buses for carrying devotee up to Tirthamukh. As large number of devotees would take a holy dip in the Lake, NDRF personnel have also been deployed to ensure safety of devotees.

Businessmen participated with exclusive handloom and handicraft products, terracotta, jute and bamboo products to wall hangings, artificial jewellery, stone arts, carpets and statues. There are food courts also for food lovers, with a special display of traditional food items.
