August 10, 2018: Fuel prices have been hiked after taxes proposed by the State Cabinet became effective from today. In the close heels of transport fare hike, increase in Piped Natural gas (PNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is expected to put pressure on common people, experts opined.
Sources said, in case of CNG prices, there is a hike of Rs 3 from existing Rs 41 per kg while increase in PNG price is Rs 2.50 from existing Rs 17.50.
- CNG to cost now Rs 44 per kg
- PNG to cost now Rs 19
Earlier, the State Cabinet decided to hike tax on fuel prices and in accordance with the decision, prices of CNG and PNG have been increased and new prices have become effective from today.
However, major Opposition Parties are yet to react, SUCI has immediately hit the street and opposed to the hiking fuel prices. SUCI sources alleged, the increase will put common people under economic stress. “People are already troubled with hike in transport costs and fuel price hike will add salt to wounds. In five-month old BJP regime, common people have started reeling under economic burden”, SUCI leaders alleged.
It is also argued that hikes in passenger fares and fuel price are likely to trigger overall price rise pushing up prices of essential commodities. “Prices of essential goods will increase as both the transport and fuel prices – two most crucial market influencing factor – have been raised”, experts opined.
