September 13, 2018: For the last few years Tripura, especially capital city Agartala, started celebrating Ganesh Puja with religious fervor and éclat.
Ganesh or Vinayaka Chaturthi, the God of wisdom and remover of obstacles, was celebrated with usual enthusiasm in the state on Thursday and the celebration will continue for three days.
More than 200 pujas are taking place in Agartala and suburbs this year. Since dawn, devotees thronged several temples and makeshift pandals and offered poojas to mark the day.
Serpentine queues of devotees and revelers were seen at several Puja pandals and taking Prashad. Hundreds of Ganesh idols of various shapes and sizes were installed in tastefully decorated and illuminated pandals were in different localities in the capital and elsewhere in the state.

The city wore a festive look with colourful pandals. Devotional and hindi and bengali film songs were being played at almost all the pandals. Kids danced to the tunes. Chief Minister Biplab Deb extended his greetings to the people on the occasion. Adequate Policemen for the security supervision during Vinayaka Chaturthi were pressed into action. Notably,
Vinayaka Chaturthi, which was synonymous with Mumbai for centuries, is fast becoming a popular fixture in the festival calendar of Agartala and its suburbs. With Ganesh Puja, festive season in Tripura has begun. After puja of Lord Ganesha, Viswakarma puja – puja of deity of creative abilities will take place on September 17 to be followed by Durga Puja.
