September 19, 2018: In a first major move in enhancing State health care delivery system, Urology and Plastic surgery departments were inaugurated at AGMC and GBP Hospital in Agartala today. Health and Family Welfare Minister Sudip Roy Barman inaugurated the facilities.
Each of the Urology and Plastic surgery Department has been made operational GBP Hospital, initially with 11 beds. Four specialist doctors for Urology and two specialist doctors for plastic surgery will cater the needs of patients. Also, five other doctors will assist the specialist doctors.
With setting up of these two important departments, patients who had to travel other States for availing Urological treatment and Plastic surgery will be benefited.
Inaugurating the facilities, Roy Barman said, “It is a historic day as the state is blessed with its own Urology and Plastic Surgery unit”. He aslo said, various super specialty courses in urology will be practiced and people will be benefitted with kidney, gold bladder stones and other surgeries, the State Government is looking to set up kidney transplant, added Barman.
Dedicating these super-specialty services, Roy Barman added that Urology department will cater surgical and medical needs of patients suffering from congenital kidney problems, bladder and prostate tumour, urethral injury and stricture and penile injury.
Under Plastic surgery department, reconstruction of damaged or abnormal body parts including birth defects like cleft lip, palate and hand deformities and burn deformity correction would now possible at GBP Hospital, said Health Minister.
Mentioning the future proposal of Health department for introduction of other super-speciality services, Roy Barman told that super-specialty course in Urology to be initiated at AGMC and kidney transplant, when other allied department like CTVS and Nephrology are made operational
The health department is also planning to introduce super-specialty course in plastic surgery (MCH-plastic) and cosmetic surgery in AGMC and GBP Hospital.
