August 13, 2018: What may be considered as a major blow to BJP-led Govt in the State, the High Court of Tripura has today clearly flashed green signal to INPT’s pan to hold demonstration in Agartala.
Speaking to media today, INPT general secretary Jagadish Debbarma said, after being rejected by the State Police administration, INPT moved Court seeking permission to hold agitation in the capital.
“INPT proposed to hold agitation on June 28, but the Police did not issue permission. BJP does not show respect to democratic rights and right to raise voices against the Govt – and due to such vision of BJP, Police turned down INPT’s pleas for organizing stir”, Jagadish Debbarma said.
The petition of INPT came up in High Court for hearing before a single bench headed by the Chief Justice Ajay Rastogi today and the Chief Justice gave green signal paving way for INPT to hold demonstration in a peaceful manner, INPT leaders claimed.
Earlier, BJP-led Govt denounced ‘practice of holding agitations’ and even Ministers blamed the previous LF Govt for fostering such ‘practices’. “With the CPM ousted from, such practice must also come to an end”, BJP leaders asserted.
However, BJP-led Govt’s decision regarding holding agitation created dissent among the political parties and opposition accused BJP of snatching away democratic rights of holding protest programmes peacefully. With High Court’s verdict on INPT’s petition, BJP leaders need to rethink about its ‘anti-agitation’ stand, experts opined.
“In the wake of BJP’s stance on democratic agitations, High Court’s verdict is a major relief and the verdict will surely further raise people’s belief on judiciary system”, opined senior journalists.
