September 07, 2018: Ganja traders are adopting newer techniques even as State Police is tightening the noose. Receiving inputs from the Intelligence, sleuths seized huge ganja from an outbound oil tanker. Police sources said, around 2080 kg dry ganja was seized from the oil tanker.
Sources said, Dharmanagar and Bagbasha Police signaled an oil tanker (AS 01 47688) to stop at Panisagar area along the NH. The tanker was travelling from Agartala. However, the driver ignored the signal and attempted to flee at a high speed. Police chased the tanker and ultimately, the drive stopped the tanker in between Bagbasha and Shanichhara. Although drive managed to escape, Police pulled back the tanker at Bagbasha outpost. Later, Officer in-Charge Benu Madhab Dey said, dry ganja of worth Rs 2 crore was seized. He also said, ganja traders are adopting new and even unique techniques to evade Police raids – however, State Police is well efficient to handle the emerging situation.
Meanwhile, in another movement, Dharmanagar Police seized around 1359 kg ganja from an oil tanker at Halflong area and arrested three persons. Sources said, Police seized 1359 kg ganja kept in 99 packets in a 12-wheel tanker (NL 01AA 3453). Market value of the seized ganja is around Rs 1.5 crore. Police also arrested three persons – driver deep Singh (33) of Guwahati, Pragyanjit Sinha (32) of Meghalaya and Debashish Pal of Dharmanagar. The raid was led by Dharmanagar SDPO Jyotisman Das and OC Benu Madhab Dey.
