Agartala, July 13, 2019: Prior to ensuing three-tier Panchayat Polls in Tripura, more than 1000 persons joined Congress today. Even as ruling BJP is all set for a thumping victory with more than 86 per cent seats won uncontested, today’s joining in favour of Congress will bolster grand old Party’s confidence in the State. In a programme, members of 315 families consisting of 1092 voters joined Congress at Killa under Gomati District in Tripura. The voters hail from 30-Bagma (ST) Assembly Constituency Area.
Tripura Pradesh Congress Chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarman welcomed the new entrants.
It may be noted here that Congress was completely washed out in last Assembly polls in 2018 as the Party failed win in any of the seats of 60-seat Assembly. However, after Debbarman became the Chief, Congress started to regain grounds. In recent Lok Sabha Polls, Congress emerged as major opposition Party against BJP. Even though, Congress could not win in any of the two LS seats, it’s vote percentage soared pushing CPIM to third position.
In ensuing Panchayat Polls – slated to be held on July 27 – Congress is ahead of CPIM in terms of number of candidates in the fray. Meanwhile, ruling BJP has already won around 86 per cent seats uncontested. While, CPIM is yet to sound poll cry loudly, Congress is trying to put a brave face.
