Indian Medical Association Tripura state branch and All Tripura Government Doctors Association announced this today. Speaking to the media persons at Agartala Press Club, General Secretary of Indian Medical Association Tripura state Branch, Dr. Souvik Debbarma said, as a part of token protest throughout the country, we have requested all the doctors and health staff to call off OPD services for 24 hours protesting against the attack on an on-duty medical officer at Bengal.
He also informed the media that all the casualty and emergency services would remain open and no patient would be left without treatment. And, all the health staff of the hospital would remain present.
Replying to a question regarding the repeated attacks on doctors, Dr. Kaushik Chakraborty of ATGDA said, we have also faced a similar incident here in Agartala. But, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and the then Health Minister Sudip Roy Barman effectively handled the situation. Whereas, in West Bengal, the Bengal Chief Minister herself complicated the situation. Her statement on the doctors added fuel to the fire which is considered to be extremely critical to the doctors, added Dr. Chakraborty.
